Over 20,000 petition signatures - (the forgotten petition)
Before the horsesnothouses.com campaign was launched in March a few ideas were played around with. You will already be aware that we continue to promote our change.org petition, which you will have hopefully already signed, and if not there is a link to the right hand side of our website. During the development phase a similar petition was created at thepetitionsite.com. Although the petition and account were created, it was never actively used, instead the change.org petition was our petition provider of choice. Since the campaign was launched the petitionsite.com petition had been all but forgotten about, with the assumption that it had not even been published.
By chance the Mirfield Reporter picked up on the "forgotten" petition, and reported that it had gained over 19,000 signatories. On logging in today it indeed does have over 19,600 signatories. Unfortunately most of the signatories are from distant shores and therefore arguably carry less weight than those nearer to home. There are however over 5,000 U.K. signatories to the petition, and on analysis many of these are indeed local and very relevant. Although a thorough cross-check against the change.org signatories has yet to be completed a provisional estimate would suggest that combined we have over 20,000 signatories which includes 6,000 U.K. based of which over 1,000 are "local".
Whilst thepetitionsite.com petition will now continue to be monitored, it will be the change.org petition that will continue to be linked and promoted from this website.
